Atal Incubation Centre, Sri Krishnadevaraya University (AIC-SKU) is a Premier Incubation Facility established by Atal Innovation Mission, NITI Aayog, Govt. of India and is engaged in developing the entrepreneurial ecosystem in the region catalyzing diverse areas of Science, Engineering & Technology through

b. Promoting interaction with and resourcing technology and expertise from the incubatees

c. Creating jobs in rural sector through enterprise and entrepreneurship development

Fundamentally, the purpose of the education is to bring out the inherent talent present in every person. Startup ecosystem delivers exactly this outcome, helps youngsters identify the right problem, generate sustainable ideas and convert the nascent ideas into scalable business venture. Startups have the potential to create employment at large scale in much lesser time than the conventional industries. Startups of today are capable of creating wonderful products that have global impact and create jobs in thousands and improve the Intellectual Property assets of the nation.

Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) play a major role in nurturing such startup ecosystem in their campuses. However, it is noted that faculty in many HEIs are well equipped in academics and research but have limited exposure in innovation and entrepreneurship. If the faculty and the management are honed their mindset and skills in this direction, setting up startup ecosystem would be achieved with ease. For this reason, the Ministry of Education, Govt. of India has introduced National Innovation and Startup Policy for Students and Faculty in 2019 and National Education Policy 2020 to address the gap between HEIs and the industry. These policies aim at preparing the HEIs in setting up incubators to nurture the innovation culture and create entrepreneurs.

Given the academic load, limited exposure to startup ecosystem, lack of necessary policies in place and inadequate resources hinder the HEIs in setting up such facilities.
